From the top of its 30 metres, Pons’s dungeon is undoubtedly the most imposing in the region.
During your visit discover a medieval world and have the audacity to climb the 136 steps to enjoy a breathtaking view of the medieval city, the valley of the Seugne and our beautiful region.
Did you know?
A first castle was razed in 1179 by Richard Coeur de Lion, Duke of Aquitaine and future king of England who, according to his methods expeditious, sanctioned harshly his vassals of Saintonge a little too turbulent. Geoffroy III, Lord of Pons at that time, hastened to rebuild a new one shortly thereafter. It is, as a whole, the one we can visit today.
